Louis Stout Memorial Scholarship
This notice is being sent to all KHSAA member schools.
When former Commissioner Louis Stout passed away in 2012, his widow Anna directed that donations on his behalf go to the Louis Stout Memorial Fund for Students. She felt this was a chance for the KHSAA to honor student-athletes who excel in athletics, academics, school service and community service. The award process for 2021-2022 is now underway.
Applications are being accepted for students to apply for those awards through Sunday, February 28, 2022. The award winners will be announced in conjunction with the boys’ state basketball tournament in March. Two grants, each in the amount of a one-time scholarship of $2,000 payable to an institution of higher learning, will be awarded. The scholarship is not renewable and is not endowed for expansion. Minimum criteria is a 3.5 (converted to 4.0 scale) grade point average; involvement in varsity sports or sport-activities; involvement in other school activities, a record of community service/involvement and a member of the 2020-2021 senior class.
The application for the scholarships is located at https://khsaa.org/ge65-application-for-louis-stout-memorial-scholarship/ on the KHSAA website.
Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship
What is the Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship?
The Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 scholarship that is awarded to four high school seniors for use in post-secondary education. It utilizes a video submission where applicants tell their personal story on bettering lives, both now and in the future. They also share their insights into banking experiences for young adults. Students may access the scholarship application through our website at: www.ccuky.org/scholarships.
When is the deadline?
All submissions must be fully completed and uploaded by 11:59 pm ET on March 18, 2022, to: www.ccuky.org/scholarship-application. Only digital submissions to this link are allowed.
How do students apply?
With creativity and passion, each student will record a short video (5-minute limit) and upload it to YouTube as unlisted. Once done, the student must complete a short submission form on our website where they will upload the URL to the recording. The student should address the following in their video:
How are you currently Bettering Lives in your community?
How can CCU Better the Lives of college-aged students?
How will your education empower you to Better Lives in the future?
What are you looking for from your banking experience?
Who is eligible?
To be eligible the student must be a graduating high school senior attending post-secondary education in the fall of 2022 at a university, college, trade school, or program resulting in certification or license. They must also be the primary account holder on a Commonwealth Credit Union membership on or before March 18, 2022. For information on membership, visit Why Commonwealth Credit Union › Commonwealth Credit Union (ccuky.org). For more information on scholarship eligibility, click here.
How are the winners selected?
A panel of three judges comprised of professionals in the field of community outreach, education, and/or civic awareness will view and score each video submission. To ensure a fair adjudication process, no CCU employees serve on this panel. Video submissions are scored using a rubric based on the application criteria. The four highest-ranking videos will be the scholarship winners. Traditionally, judging takes place in April and applicants are notified of decisions in May.
